Newmarket isn’t all about horse racing. Last night was the first meeting of the Cambridge Backgammon Club in Newmarket where 7 players raced through a round robin style event. Newcomers Alex and Eli shot out of the starting gates at a gallop, both earning early wins. But it was Eli that came into the finishing straight leading the pack, and a win in the final furlong meant he rode out as overall winner, unbeaten on the night. We’ll be back again on October 1st when the Bookies already have Eli as odd’s on favourite, but with a few dark horses waiting in the wings it could be anyone’s night.
