Interclub Tournament

For the second time, Cambridge and East Kent met up at the Clissold Arms in North London at the weekend.

Last year Cambridge won the match involving eight players for each club, but this year that was extended to 10 players, with East Kent gaining revenge after five rounds of seven-point matches. The first round was paired based on ratings and then randomly drawn for subsequent matches.

Cambridge’s Ruth Flack said: “The Clissold Arms is home of the East Finchley backgammon club and is a wonderful venue (also an amazing Greek restaurant). Everyone had a terrific day, enjoyed each other’s company and, most of all, had a great day of backgammon.”

Sean Thomas from East Kent added: “We are already arranging next year’s date for a rematch. It’s also sparked off the idea to meet up with a team from Wanstead for another club tournament. It would be great to get other clubs to do the same as it gives other members the chance to play people outside of their club as many are unlikely to go to individual tournaments.
